Your dream of becoming an LPN is closer than you think. Let us help make it a reality.

Our Practical Nursing Program delivers 1,374 hours of comprehensive training through classroom learning, laboratory practice, and clinical experience – all carefully designed to meet the Florida Board of Nursing’s standards for LPN practice. Under the guidance of Registered Nurses, students master essential nursing skills across diverse specialties including Medical/Surgical Nursing, Pediatric Care, Obstetrics, Geriatrics, and Mental Health. The curriculum thoroughly prepares graduates for various healthcare settings – from hospitals and long-term care facilities to community health and home care environments. Key course components cover Vocational Nursing Roles, Nursing Fundamentals, Infection Control, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition, Growth and Development, Pharmacology, Ethical/Legal Practice, and Professional Communication. Every aspect of our program aligns with Florida’s approved Curriculum Framework and Performance Standards for Practical Nurses, ensuring graduates are fully prepared for licensure and professional success.

The Nursing Program Director’s primary mission is to thoroughly prepare students to meet all educational requirements set by the Florida Department of Health and Florida Board of Nursing for Practical Nurse education, ensuring graduates qualify to take the NCLEX-PN licensing exam and become competent Licensed Practical Nurses capable of working safely and effectively across diverse healthcare settings. The LPN profession offers exceptional job security as aging populations require extended medical care, creating growing demand in nursing facilities, hospitals, outpatient centers, physician practices, and home health services year after year. Practical nursing graduates enjoy remarkable schedule flexibility, with opportunities for day, evening, or night shifts – including weekends and options for part-time or full-time positions with shifts ranging from 4 to 12 hours. Even during economic recessions when other industries struggle, healthcare remains essential – hospitals and medical facilities must continue operating, and increased stress-related illnesses actually drive greater need for LPN services. If you’re ready to launch your nursing career, our program provides the direct path to earning your Practical Nursing diploma and preparing for the NCLEX-PN exam. Take the first step toward this rewarding profession – contact us today to begin your journey to becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. You’ll find this career decision is one you’ll never regret.

All students must submit the following documentation at least two (2) months before beginning clinical rotations:

  • Completed medical clearance, including immunizations/vaccinations (TB, Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella, and titers)

  • Negative urine drug screening

  • Physical examination report

Detailed Requirements:

1. Physical Examination

  • A physical exam must be completed and submitted to the program director before starting clinical rotations.

  • Students may schedule the exam with their primary care provider or a public healthcare provider of their choice.

2. Tuberculosis (TB) Testing

  • A two-step tuberculin skin test (TST) is required before clinical participation.

  • Additional testing is only needed if exposed to a TB-positive individual.

  • Results must be recorded in millimeters, with documentation kept on file.

  • A chest X-ray is required for any positive TB test.

3. Immunization Requirements

Students must provide proof of immunity for the following:

  • Rubella: One (1) rubella immunization or titer (MMR accepted).

  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR): Two (2) doses or positive titer.

  • Varicella (Chickenpox): Immunization record, titer, or documented history of disease.

  • Verification: Dates may be confirmed by a healthcare provider. Students are responsible for titer costs.

4. Influenza Vaccine (Seasonal)

  • Proof of a yearly flu vaccine may be required (based on program policy).

  • Documentation must be submitted by October 31.

  • Medical or religious exemptions require a signed waiver submitted by the deadline.

  • The college reserves the right to update this policy as needed.

5. Hepatitis B Vaccination

  • Required due to potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens (per OSHA guidelines).

  • The three-dose series must be started at least one month before clinicals:

    • Dose 1: Initial shot

    • Dose 2: One month later

    • Dose 3: Six months after the first dose

  • Available through primary care providers or county health departments.

  • Students declining the vaccine must submit a signed waiver (medical, religious, or philosophical) before clinicals.

  • Failure to comply will result in denial of clinical participation.

6. Tetanus (Td/Tdap) Vaccine

  • A tetanus booster is strongly recommended if it has been 10+ years since the last dose.

  • Tdap (includes pertussis protection) is preferred due to rising whooping cough cases.

  • Consult a healthcare provider or local health department for details.

7. CPR Certification

  • Current CPR certification (valid for two years) is required before clinicals.

  • Must be from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (Healthcare Provider level, not lay responder courses).

  • A copy of the certification card must be submitted before clinical rotations begin.

  • Note: Clinical sites may have additional requirements, which students must follow.

Important Deadline:

All documents—physical exam, immunizations, TB test results, background check, CPR certification, and drug screening—must be submitted at least two (2) months before clinical rotations begin.

Failure to meet this deadline will result in exclusion from clinicals.

Students must provide:

  • Proof of TB-free status

  • Immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella

  • A clean drug screening

  • A medical clearance form signed by a Medical Doctor (MD), Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP), or Physician Assistant (PA)

This policy is subject to change based on clinical site or program updates.

All students must complete a standard Level II criminal background check through an approved vendor and submit results to the school at least two months before clinical rotations begin, with most clinical sites additionally requiring an AHCA Level II screening. A criminal history may prevent clinical placement, employment opportunities, and licensure eligibility, as the Board of Nursing and other certifying bodies may deny exam eligibility regardless of when the offense occurred. Students are solely responsible for verifying their licensure eligibility prior to enrollment and should be aware that clinical sites typically review background checks midway through the program (often during the 2nd-4th quarters), reserving the right to reject students based on their findings. The college cannot predict or influence these decisions and assumes no liability if a student is denied clinical participation, licensure, or employment due to their criminal record. By enrolling, students acknowledge and accept these risks.
